(EDITOR’S NOTE: Information provided by The DNR Sunday noting the incident occurred on Lake Wawasee was incorrect. Indiana Conservation Officer media spokesperson Jerry Hoerdt today announced, “I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused any reporting agencies.”)
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a swimming accident that happened Saturday night on Chapman Lake and ultimately claimed the life of an Ohio man.
Bradley Heyne, 26, of Coldwater, Ohio, was swimming with friends at a sandbar on Chapman Lake when he dove head first off of a boat and struck his head on the shallow sandbar.
Other boaters quickly pulled the unresponsive Heyne to shore and CPR was immediately initiated. Heyne was taken a local hospital where he passed away at 7 a.m. this morning.
Investigating Conservation Officer Nathan Hooley reminds anyone recreating around the water this summer to be aware of your surroundings and to wear a personal flotation device whenever possible.
