Chautauqua-Wawasee will present its first full week of programming July 7-11. The week is packed with activities, lectures and entertainment. Advance registration for arts, crafts and lectures is required.
Arts programming: 9 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday, peace pole project with Creative Fish Gallery; 4 p.m. Tuesday, knitting 101 with Michelle Fife; 4 p.m. Wednesday, felted flowers with Fife; and 4 p.m. Thursday, needle felting with Fife.
An educational adventures/lecture series will also be presented. Advance registration is required. The first topic will be “Past, Present, Preservation Adventure and Cruise” with the Syracuse-Wawasee Historical Museum, Wawasee Area Conservancy Foundation and Chautauqua-Wawasee, at 4 p.m. Monday, for the presentation, with the cruise boarding at 11 a.m. Friday on the SS Lillypad Cruise at the Frog Tavern.
Other educational programs are: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, “The God in Whom We Live and Move and Have Our Being,” with Rev. John Denson, rector of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Indianapolis; 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, “Lunch and Lecture” with Dr. Ronald Manahan, former president of Grace College and Seminary; and 9 a.m. Wednesday, “Building For Tomorrow” with George Srour, founder and chief dreamer of Building Tomorrow Inc.
Other events include: 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, “Lunch and Lecture” with Dr. Welling Hall, Plowshares professor of peace studies and politics, Earlham College; 10:30 a.m. Thursday, “Is Peace Possible” with keynote speaker R. Scott Appleby, dean of the Donald Keough School of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame; and a presentation by Brian Murphy, of Butler Astrophysics, at 9 a.m. Friday.
Entertainment events include: 7:30 p.m. Monday, a Two Piano recital with dynamic duo Anita Cast and Marianne Tobias; a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sons of Bill Lakeside Outdoor Concert at the Gazebo; and a 7:30 p.m. Thursday gospel performance by The Schmidts and First Love.
Admission to these event is free. VIP seating is available for weekpass purchasers.
These programs and special events will take place at the Oakwood Resort in the Hilltop building, upper level, unless otherwise specified. Advanced registration is required because of limited availability for lectures and arts and crafts. Special overnight packages are available. Participants can sign up for one program or purchase the weekpass, which entitles participants to all activities and lunches, Tuesday through Friday, including tax and gratuities, and the S.S. Lillypad Cruise. Weekpass purchasers also receive VIP seating at all evening concerts and performances at a substantial savings.
