With winds under 5 mph on Lake Wawasee, the Wawasee Yacht Club made the decision to delay the Wawasee E-Scow Regatta Open for at least an hour. The decision was made around 10 a.m., around half an hour before the high performance sailboat race was supposed to begin.
Terry Moorman, regatta co-chairman, stated that low winds for the day were predicted, however, tomorrow, winds are expected to be between 12 and 18 mph on Lake Wawasee.
Contestants, registered and ready, are adjusting their sails and preparing their boats in the hopes that the races will instead begin at 11:30 a.m. today.
In the mean time, they’ll fellowship and enjoy sack lunches provided by the Wawasee Yacht Club.
Toby Sutherland, Denver, Colo., has been sailing in the regatta for nearly 15 years and says part of the enjoyment is meeting with fellow sailors.
“People that do regattas,” he said, “we all know each other. As much as anything, it’s just fun to see people you know.”
Tomorrow’s races are set to begin at 10 a.m.
