Did you ever want to be a pirate? Here’s your chance to live a childhood dream by entering the 2015 Wawasee Flotilla’s “Pirate Parade.”
Use your creativity and imagination to covert your pirate dreams onto a boat or as an on-shore entry and enter it into the 2015 Wawasee Flotilla Saturday, July 4.
“Pirate Parade” is the theme for the 54th Flotilla parade. This means create your own “Never Land” with Captain Hook or recreate your version of a scene from “Pirates Of the Caribbean” or create your own pirate adventure. The list is endless.
Can’t think of anything, you can still enter the Flotilla by decorating a boat depicting Lake Wawasee’s history, or a patriotic theme.
But remember you don’t need to have a boat to enter as an on-shore competition is a part of the event. So create your own pirate scene on shore.
The flotilla participants will gather in front of Wawasee Spink at 1 p.m. With the parade beginning at 1:30 p.m. And traveling clockwise around the lake. Antique and wooden boat entries will start off the Flotilla followed by Commodore Ron Baumgartner leading the decorated boats.
Awards will be presented immediately following the parade at the Wawasee Spink pier. In addition to the Commodore’s Trophy, the Wawasee Property Owners Association, DNR and the List Family Award (for the most original), awards will be presented.
Awards will also be given out for the Best Lake Wawasee History, business/commercial, most patriotic, neighborhood, non-profit, youth and on-shore.
A new category has been added — People’s Choice. Following the parade visit the Wawasee Flotilla’s Facebook page where all entries will be posted, within an hour of the conclusion of the parade.. Like your favorite entry and the entry with the most likes will win the new award. The winner will be announced at the annual Wawasee Flotilla Cruise Aboard the SS Lillypad on Aug. 8.
T-shirts carrying this year’s Flotilla logo are available to purchase at Griffith’s Marine, NewMarket, Main Channel Marine and Team Tuttle Mortgage.
The Flotilla Cruise will be boarding at 6:30 p.m. And returning at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8. The evening will include Woody Karaoke entertainment, appetizers and a cash bar. Tickets are $30 each. Lisa Hill is handling the tickets and can be contacted at lisahill.wawasee@gmail.com. The proceeds from the cruise will go towards the 2016 Flotilla.
