SYRACUSE — In a culture of stress, conflict and disunity, women from all backgrounds and faiths have an opportunity to come together at the Let There Be Life retreat at Oakwood Inn at Lake Wawasee.
For the community to have this at their back door is wonderful. Most local retreats are church-based, this is faith-based”, says Nikki Wiseman, a retreatgoer. “Whether we’re from a Catholic, Brethren, Amish, Protestant, or whichever background, there’s one common ground and coming together will make for a pretty awesome group.”
Samantha Vanhook, another woman registered for the retreat, said, “I love that I will go to my first retreat that is close to home. The friendships that I receive will be able to grow in person, not only by texting and social media. I think ladies should attend this retreat to get away from our busy, stressful everyday lives. To be able to get close to God without worrying about the demands of family, work, and home. We can get support and strength from other individuals who we can maybe work together with in the future to help our community.”
The retreat’s purpose is simply to bring women together in one place for a relaxing, inspiring time away from the normal grind of life. The retreat will focus on four aspects of a woman’s life: Spiritual, Emotional, Lifestyle, and Physical. There will be inspirational lectures on topics from faith, to living a life that influences others, to family, to a women’s overall health and well being. Whether single, a stay at home mom, a career woman, an entrepreneur, a part-time employee, a teenager, millennial or baby-boomer, there seems to be a message for every type.
Women can choose from a variety of optional activities: Small group table talks, games and activities, relaxation time, all-level fitness classes, or simply hanging out and meeting new friends. Two nights of lodging and all meals are also included.
Fight Club Pink, a local non-profit organization, is host to this event but women do not need to be participants of Fight Club to attend. “Fight Club Pink has had about 500 participants from more than 20 different churches and we just want to keep extending the message of faith, love, and strength to all women, says Fight Club’s Assistant Coach, Aimee Trammell.
“This retreat is for any woman 13 years or older. Its awesome how we all come from different backgrounds yet can come together and worship. Our community hasn’t had something like this in a long time and we need this to help break down religious barriers we all tend to set up and focus on what we all have in common.”
“Not to mention, women have crazy, demanding lives and a weekend to have fun and decompress? Yea, we all need that!”
Let There Be Life retreat will begin at noon Friday, Feb. 5, early evening and end Sunday, Feb. 7, at Oakwood Resort on Lake Wawasee. Because no profit will be made on this retreat, cost is extremely affordable at $165 for lodging and meals. A $50 deposit and registration form due now to hold place.
